Laurel Stormwater Master Plan

In 2015, students of Dr. Jules Bruck, University of Delaware, prepared a conceptual master plan to revive the Laurel Waterfront and increase ecotourism. She as a practitioner, continued with The Town of Laurel and the non-for-profit organization, The Laurel Redevelopment Corporation (LRC), to bring the concepts to fruition. Dr. Bruck along with the LRC, retained our services to design green technology BMP’s. A Stormwater Master Plan was prepared for all the parcels included in the student generated concept plan.

Rain barrels digital overlay to Main Street Event image; Dr. Bruck and the LRC held an event in town to raise awareness of the Laurel Waterfront Master Plan.

A matrix of approved best management practices within the State of Delaware was reviewed and the systems weighted for quantitative components such as stormwater quantity and quality as well as qualitative components such as habitat value and community acceptance.

The matrices were simplified into the best suited BMPs with a circular graph and a plan view created to illustrate details of the BMP.

As part of the community outreach, the client requested we create an informational poster to explain the benefits of a living river edge. The poster was put on display near the popular ice cream truck for the Main Street Event.

Each drainage area within the Stormwater Master Plan was overlaid with the proposed sea level rise maps prepared by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.
